THANK YOU,preetisingh. Bollywood does have originality( in buckets). The movies appeal to the fans without trivializing it with sex and stupid hollywood crap. Who needs technology? The movies are fine without it. I think Bollywood is still the only film industry where the actors do all their stunts 100% without doubles or without the use of technology and if you take away the songs, the saris, the snow capped mountains(a bit too far fetched in some movies), Bollywood movies lose their essence

There are bollywood movies distributed in the US.You have to know where to look for and buy them. For me,the subtitles are not a problem. I NEED them to understand about 80 percent of the movie. The other 20 I can work out on my own. When you watch a Bollywood movie, you want to watch it over and over again just to get that feeling of happiness and wholesomeness in your system. Only a few Hollywood movies can boast of that and when you want to watch a movie not only for entertainment, but for the lessons and the thinking it gets you to do,then that's the best praise you can give a movie and BOLLYWOOD DOES THAT!!!!
If they got together,Hollywood will steal Bollywood ideas and call it theirs. Bend it like Beckham was directed and produced by Indians, but (for those who saw it) was it mentioned anywhere in the trailers? No,all that was said and shown was the distributor and there was absolutely no dialogue in Hindi despite the fact that the movie revolved around an Indian girl and her family. Same with Bride and Prejudice. The good thing about Bride and Prejudice is I think Ms Chadha and the producers took control and all the songs on the soundtrack CD were recorded in Hindi, even the ones originally sung in English, especially the Ashanti one. It is awesome and sounds better in Hindi.

I read somewhere that after Will Smith went to IIFA,he was so impressed that he's now brokering a deal to do a collaboration.Let's hope it'll happen. Let me add one more thing: For those who have seen Ms Rai in Lancome ads,Bride and prejudice and Mistress of Spice, let me just say I don't think having her in these movies and ads means Bollywood is being reflected in mainstream american media. Being a former miss world doesn't make you the face of Bollywood. If Hollywood as an entertainment powerhouse in the West wants to court Bollywood, it should go after veteran and well liked stars like the Bachchans, the Deols(Dharmendra and Hema), the Khans(all four: SRK,Salman,Saif and Aamir),instead of the young stars. The Bachchans(minus the son) and the Deols may be older, but they are well-established faces and they have a cult like following. Some of the Khans are approaching middle age,but the same applies too. But in a society that puts youth over experience and maturity, that may be asking a bit much, huh?

Conclusion: I may or may not be speaking for non-hindi fans of Bollywood, but the ones I know feel the same way: The day Bollywood decides to mess around with Hollywood, we are so gone. That means they no longer cater to the same audience they do to now if they join Hollywood. Again Bride and Prejudice is an example. The movie flopped so badly, it was pathetic. Bend it like Beckham didn't do as well either. Mistress of Spice... if you are an aishwarya rai fan and you haven't heard of the movie, then I guess you get my drift. The hollywood-Bollywood collabs we've had so far were a disappointment and note also that Ms Chadha is more British than Indian and the fact that most actors in Bollywood are happy with their movies and don't want to ditch camp unlike Ms Rai says a lot abt the collaborations AND BOLLYWOOD ALREADY HAS A WIDE AUDIENCE. Do you have an idea how many people are in South Asia, then China and Japan, plus all the NRIs(Non resident Indians),Indians in UK(I think there are more hindi channels on UK Tv than English channels),European fans,Canadian Indians,Greek Indians. Compared to the number of Indians,Asians and Non-Asian fans of Bollywood, the ratio would be something like 9 in every ten person are bollywood fans. Maybe that's why the bollywood novies nominated for the oscars or sent in never make it because Hollywood is scared of the competition of movies that actually has something to teach.Lagaan didn't make it. Paheli lost to some dumb movie abt gay cowboys(Brokeback mountain). Even Mother India (for people who know the movie) LOST back then. If every movie lost,Mother India should not have lost, ever ,nor even sholay which I think was nominated back then. So maybe the reason there hasn't been a collab is because Hollywood is afraid that if its fans get exposed to Bollywood movies, they might like them and then jump ship over to Bollywood. I know I did!!!

commercially, yes
creatively, no

look at what hollywood does, for the most part, to Eastern Asian cinema

With a few exceptions (personally I liked the Grudge) the American versions are incredibally weak compared to the original.

If more people would just stop being lazy and be willing to read some subtitles that would see some outstanding movies that are out there.

I would like to see a broader distribution of Bollywood movies though, with English subtitles, again like the Chinese, Korean and Japanese movies that have seen some recent wide DVD distribution.

i think if bollywood has to reach that level where people would have a wide spectrum of audience then definitely bollywood should collaborate with hollywood.india being rich in cultural values should exploit the expertise and technical aspects of how to make more meaningful movies.also there would be the import n export of creative minds.

No. Hollywood and Bollywood cater for different people.

I just wish bollywood would stop copying the hollywood movies - they have so much talent of their own.

Although dere isnt a prob.... but i dont think it would work cause there's a huge culture divide so even if one makes such movies i think i wud b caught in middle not bein appreciated by the indian or the american audience cause after all the basic idea, style nd motive and also the masses 2wards which its directed is different for both industries.. its a riske' thing whic might not work.......
