That strikes me as being a little sexist and not very fair from a financial gift point of view

...I want to have an expensive best friend, not some mutt that will just hump my leg...

What is the most expensive dog in the world? That would be okay...maybe you could all chip in together and get me a dog made out of diamonds.

Let us end this inequality now!

are you actually looking for some exuses here to give to her on why you dont want to/ or cant buy her that diamond ring?
JUST TELL HER YOU CANT AFFORD IT!!
when she leaves, you will be happy to have your dog humping away at your leg as it will be the only humping your gonna get.
may i add............. now days it is women who have dogs as we are all independant and we need them to protect us and our diamonds which we bought for ourselves anyway!!!:-)

I don't know about the most expensive dog currently, but at one point Lowchen ( http://www.dog.com/breed/docgrafx/lowchen.jpg ) was ranked quite high. Nowadays price of a puppy seems to be something between $800 and $1600. If you decide to trade your puppy to a diamond, then in $1000 - $2000 price range you can get "High quality stones in the 0.30 - 0.57 range, mid- to high quality stones in the 0.58 - 0.75 range" ( http://www.thediamondbuyingguide.com/diamondpriceguide.html#1000 ) Not too big of a pebble, eh?

Now, if you compare the economic value of these friends, you may find it more lucrative to be a man. Though diamonds are forever (do not lose value) and dogs aren't (tend to have the price of a couple of pounds of fertilizer after 20 years), the dogs breed and diamonds don't. So, after a couple of succesful Lowchen breedings you can buy your girl all the diamonds she wants.

So basically these proverbs only implicate the facts we all know: men just breed around, even with their best friends, and women get to collect the earnings of that. I don't know if it's fair, but most men and women seem to like their part.

Diamonds are for shallow self absorbed people and are a girls best friend only if she is attractive.
A dog doesn't care what you look like.

Preferences with each sex I guess. A lot of women like diamonds and jewelry. I don't think those 2 sayings are scientific or anything. I'm a woman and I hate jewelry.

the truth is a woman is never satisfied, but diamonds aide as her constant reminder that someone thinks she uniqley special and worth adornment vs a dog who aids in giving a man companionship while for say hunting, the dog is unconditionally loyal. that in itself is a unique and special token
