you should go eat. If you lay in bed for more than half an hour and can't fall asleep, you should get up for a few minutes and do something different. Eat something, drink some milk, or try reading a book.

Is this just last night or does it happen often? There are many reasons why people can't get to sleep or do not sleep peacefully. Here are some of the reasons:
1. Stress over something. Try not to think about whatever is stressing you
2. Over excited. Calm down and take it easy
3. Brain still active...thinking of something. Concentrate on spot in your mind whilst keeping your eyes closed
4. Drinking coffee/tea. Affected by caffeine. Follow no. 3
5. Fear to face certain events the next day. Do not fear, face the issue
6. Over-stimulation of the brain. Same as 3

Difficulty for sleeping is a disease .It is called insomnia.I had experienced this disease more than 30 years ago.I had often unsleep in whole night. At that time my thought was making plan for what I can do tomorrow and a day after tomorrow. While I whoke I used my time for reading and writing and praying as a moslem. Sleep medicine was no help at that time.Blessed God at that time I could finished some books which could be sold to many students of universities.
This disease can be cured since 26 years ago by drinking only fresh water at least one and a half litre a day and avoiding to eat foods and drinks which contain much furine or acid ,because I have a gout disease.
And I have a regular physical exercise that is walking in a golf course. at least two times in a week. My thought on the next following day plan can be forgotten..Since that time until last year I can sleep well at nine or at least at eleven every night and I can get up early at four or five in the morning for praying. But since last year I could not get to sleep well.I woke up at night at least two times after sleeping 3 hours because I want to urinate.I have no diabetus melitus disease.I consulted to the urologist and he found out that my prostate was swollen. So you must consult to a doctor why you are often wake up at night after you slept Maybe you have only a psychological disease. You must dig out its root cause.By knowing its root cause the way of healing is easy.
As my experience you can make a benefit action to fill your time if got up by reading, writing and praying. It is better if you do not kill your time by eating if you are not really hungry, because it will make you fatter or bigger. You must make a physical exercise everyday in the afternoon until you got tired,so at night you will easily asleep. But do not forget you must eat a healthy foods for your body.Do not eat a fast foods.

i work nite shift and sometimes have trouble getting to sleep when i get home in the mornings
try drinking a glass of warm milk-sounds silly but it will make you sleepy
you can also try taking a warm bath or shower-this helps relax your muscles.
if you can't do either of those-lie down in bed with a book or magazine and read until you start to feel tired
5 hours is better than nothing and although you might still feel sleepy when you do wake up-you won't be able to hardly function at all if you don't get any sleep
good luck to you

It depends on your lifestyle. Take a light breakfat, good lunch medium dinner and nothing in between. Do a reasonable amount of work. No sleep daytime. you will be tired by evening. Take a cup of tea or coffee. Go to bed at 9.30 or 10pm. I feel you will only get up at 5 AM

Well, first of if you are having any issues with excessive caffeine use, do you exercises right before laying down? What is your current condition as far as your overall health goes, such as obesity, hypertension, diabetes, of course all that would be helpful to know. I think reading before going to bed is helpful. You might try using Melatonin to see if it will help regulate your insomniac episodes.
