I'm doing this thing for Music, where I have to find out about a band that revoultionised the music today. Naturally, most people went for older bands, but I went for Nirvana-and I need a song that defines Nirvana. Your personal opinions please- I thought maybe Come As You Are.

You chose Nirvana? Cool!! Nirvana did revolutionise the music industry today. Erm..there's no real song that defines Nirvana (all the songs are good). But naturally people are going to be concentrating on Nevermind-who can blame them!!! Don't neglect Bleach!!! OK it wasn't great. About A Girl, Been A Son, Come As You Are (I love the intro!), Dumb ('I'm not like them, I can pretend, the sun has gone' and when Kurt growls out 'Hang out on clouds, Then we can come down, I think I have a hang over now'), Heart Shaped Box (Kurt gave Courtney Love a heart shaped box-'I've been inside your heart shaped box for a week'.' In Bloom (Dave Grohl pounding the hell out of his drums), Pennyroyal Tea ('I have very bad posture, sit here and drink Pennyroyal Tea, I'm a liar and a thief') Sliver (cos it tells things how it was for Kurt when he was younger) Smells Like Teen Spirit because it is naturally Nirvana's best song, and the covers of where did you sleep last night, and the man who sold the world are awesome! All Apologies and You Know You're Right are good. It's a crying shame that Kurt was murdered. If it had been the song that revoultionised the 90's-Smells Like Teen Spirit

I don't think i can choose a favourite or definitive Nirvana song, as they changed so much from album to album. The obvious and un-original choice is smells like teen spirit, as even non nirvana fans know it. The reason for the massive difference in sound between the Bleach album and Never Mind is that Dave Grohl joined the band the year after Bleach was released(it was released in 1989 and he joined in 1990), Nevermind was the First he album he played on. There was another change in sound with the Insecticide album because Dave Grohl only played on 6 of the tracks, the rest were already recorded with 2 other drummers.I like all their songs, and really cant choose just one, because of the diversity of their style.

eg, think of a more modern band who has made a song like come as you are, and had chart sucses with it.
Revolutionising, i would say would mean changing a generations musical tastes, and not just for that one specific band. I think that metallica might have been a better choice, for the same genre..
Maybe you could have even picked hendrix
