As the old Blue Musician said, practice till your fingers are bleeding. On a more realiztic level - - - two to three hours a day, go for complete songs with tricky changes in a variety of styles.

YOU SHOULD PRACTICE TILL YOUR HEARTS CONTENT, PRACTICE SCALES AND CHORDS. PERSONALLY, I PICKED THE GUITAR AND PRACTICED 4 TO 5 HOURS A DAY OR TIL I COULDN'T FEEL MY HANDS, THEN I BOUGHT A BASS AND I CAN'T PUT THAT THING DOWN, I EVEN TAKE EITHER TO WORK.
YOU COULD GET THOSE SCALES ANYWHERE, ON-LINE OR IN MUSIC SHOPS.

when i was younger i would practice at least 4hrs a day i still put in about 15 or 20hrs a week 30yrs later....
start out with your chords and scales...then just do what you want...experiment with your guitar..that's how you get better.

it will come naturally...
if you're really willing to learn how to play the guitar..
but for great results..
it would be best to take guitar lessons..
or, rent a friend who knows how to play a guitar..
wish you all the best!
good luck!
