I like my Trans Am, but why did they stop making them. Were there problems with them?

They just weren't selling. The best explanation I've seen is that usually a performance model like the Trans Am needs a good practical base model to keep sales volume up, and the Firebird is a rather low, awkward to get into car, which discouraged a lot of buyers who didn't think the inconvenience was worth the sporty image.

Or it may just have been that sales went downhill ever since a popular but hoaky TV show starring a Trans Am and David Hasselhoff went off the air. :)

Production of the Trans Am, Firebird, and Camaro officially stopped August 29th, 2002.
GM stopped production due to bad sales (believe it or not).

The market was owned by Mustangs...

Camaro's are going to be back in 2008 or 9. Haven't heard anything about the firebirds.

I think all of th parking spaces at the local trailer parks and bowling alleys were full, so GM decided to take a break to relieve the over-crowding.

if they didn't stop making them, they wouldn't have anything to come back to 15-30 years later to say that they're bringing it back.
