You are one-eigth German; and indeed, under German law you are very much German. The Germans have a Law of Return, similar to the Israelis, granting citizenship to the descendants of German immigrants. If you can document your ancestry (and you'd need a lot of documentary evidence) you could actually claim German citizenship because of your Great-Grandfather.

Hope this helps.

From the information you've supplied, your blood line would be 25% German and 25% Tongan. Of course, if the blood line from the female side of your family is mixed, then the percentage would be less.

As for your last name 'Sanft' in German means; as an adjective: gentle, soft, and peaceful or adverb: gently, softly, and peacefully.

Hope this was helpful.

You are part German through your grandfathers line. He would be half German. Your father is one forth German. You are one eighth German. Look on Ancestry.com for his name. Try the Snaft name and also the name that one of the people found for you on the other answers. Ancestry.com has some free sections. Also look on familysearch.com. It is totally free. Search message board in ancestry.com. Also type in Free Genealogy. German Genealogy also. You may be very surprised what you find. I'm what my grandmother called it a Heinz 57 variety. I have English, Irish, Scott's Irish, Welsh and who knows what else. I have tracked many of my family line on the sights I have given you. Keep looking and you will find your roots. It's a wonderful feeling when you find your ancestors. Hope this will help. I don't care what anyone else sayes. You are part German and part Tongan through your lineage, no matter where you are born and that's a fact. You are an American be cause you were born in America. America isn't a nationality. It's a place.

Since you are not a Jew -and therefore do not get your bloodline from your mother- i would say you are a German with a Tongan mother.
So is your father etc.
But you are definitely a German.

And living on a great place ,if you ask me!

You are part German or you have some German ancestry. No, I would not refer to you as a "German" though, either by blood or by nationality (you were not born there and do not have German citizenship).
