I've been both.
Had depression for forever, and had thoughts like that. Pretty much just waited to die, because what was the point? I thought it was the height of cruelty for people to try to "save" suicidals from themselves.
Now I'm better. I've got things in my life to live for. I think every single day about how grateful I am, for... well, I specifically look for things that I might be taking for granted. The beautiful sunrise! Loved ones! Chocolate! One day I won't be able to experience them anymore; enjoy it now. And so on.
Your two states are available at any given time in the SAME PERSON. It depends upon them, which view they've decided to live by.

I'm pretty sure this is a Philosophy question but maybe there is no category for it so. I agree even though all life is a gift most peolpe fail to realize that. There is so much to do in life and to feel it is a burden forced upon you is just a bad attitude to choose and will only make life seem more forced and far less enjoyable as well as diminish ones chance to change their outlook on life.

No I don't agree. when you are born you have the same chances as 90% to 100% of the other people. So if you are having a bad life you need to change it.
Those that say they can't will never be able to and those that have the will to change shall succeed.

It all depends on your depthness of life. What it is and what you think it should be are two separate thoughts. As a person gets older they can either fear death or welcome it. Then there's a matter of not how much life you have in age, but how much age you have in life. Forced or not. Both statements are true, which one a person chooses to believe is personal. I choose to see everyday as a gift.

Yes it can be a case depending on the situations. But it up to you how to tackle the situation and i think it depends on your mindset, determination, values.
Always remember - for world you are someone but for someone you are the world.

If you are born in a free state, then life is a gift. If you are born elsewhere, life is forced on you.

its obvious that you feel like your life is not a gift, but you know what though, sometimes bad things happen, but once you get everything back under control, everything will be ok again. so I hope you feel better soon.
