First off, congratulations for overcoming such an obstacle. I quit smoking 2 and a half years ago, and never looked back.

Gaining weight is common in new non-smokers. Oral fixation is one of the hardest habits to overcome. eating instead of smoking is your way of curbing the temptation.

There are healthier ways to snack, of course, like fruits and veggies instead of Taco bell (yummmm....). Other techniques that you might want to try are chewing gum, and sucking on hard candy. Just remember to brush or use the sugarless kind.

And hey...if you gain a few pounds, it is still healthier than a lifetime of emphysema, cancer, or other lung ailments. Get over the habit first....then concern yourself with your weight!

Again, way to go! Keep it up!

This is difficult. First, nothing is worth giving up Taco Bell for, so smoke or don't, but keep eating at Taco bell.

Second, if you don't want to continue gaining weight smoke. It won't kill you any faster than a nasty diet, though you will have to endure a lot of bothersome people yapping at you.

Jogging causes more heart attacks than smoking.

What is your replacement strategy?

When you're trying to get rid of one habit, prepare a new habit you want to fill it's place, and then practice that new habit when the urge strikes.

Maybe you've wanted to get more exercise, so when the urge strikes, get up and walk..

Maybe you've wanted to spend more time on improving your goal setting and motivation.. When the urge strikes.. Write about your goals and dreams..

Do something as a positive replacement for the old habit.

Yes, you'll gain weight. Some of it typically comes off in the following year but smokers weigh about 11 pounds less than non-smokers on average.

Nicotine is extremely addictive, more so than cocaine, metamphetamines, and other drugs. It's normal to have withdrawal symptoms when you try to quit smoking.

First off, surround yourself with healthier food. Buy your favorite fruit or some plain bread to keep in your home pantry/refrigerator instead of those fatty snacks. When you get the urge to eat, it would be easier to grab an apple to chew on instead of going out to buy a taco. Out of sight, out of mind.

Gum can be help you pent off some oral urges, also.

You can also try going out on fun trips with friends who don't smoke, to take your mind off the "itching."

Nicotine patches could be an option. Gradually lower the dosage until you "need" it less and less. Good luck. My dad died of smoking at 45...

Chew gum, and drink water. Use a straw for the oral fixation when you drink the water.
