what does this mean?... Advice is a form of nostalgia. Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

It means you are reliving something you learned in the past but you've changed it by eliminating the parts that didnt work for you and now dispensing that advice but it doesnt carry the same weight or meaning as the original.
