Just ask him straight out. But if you want to break the ice a bit before hitting with the question. Start by asking him some small question about sex. Be open and honest to keep the discussion flowing with ease. Then tell him what you want. Don't be afraid. The worst that could happen is he may say no. But I doubt that. On the the other the best thing could happen and you get what you want.

Simply tell him how much you enjoyed it when the two of you have done it before, then say exactly what you said in your question: you only want to do it with him keeping the monogamy with nothing too extreme just a bit more and give him a couple of examples as to what you mean by a bit more.

i guess i was lucky my man brought it up in our relationship and i went along with it, i realsied i loved it. When you're in bed, cuddling after passionate sex...just casually ask him if you can try out something alittle more extreme....
trust me guys love it when a woman comes up with new ideas....
