I am edging an area that has no grass. To make the edge into a straight line, I have to pull up about 6 inches of grass for about 40 feet. Right now, I am using a garden hoe. But it is slow and tedious. Any other suggestions?

why edge an area that already has no grass ? do you mean you are gleaning or removing all the grass from a 6" x 40' area? use a hog nose shovel,, aka square edged,, to first cut a line on both sides of your gleaning area, then cut under the grass about an inch or 2 under the ground. transfere it to a composter or transplant it into a place where you need it, and replace the removed dirt and grass with made seedless compost or bagged potting soil..

get the area wet with a hose first, let it set for a little while, and then it will pull up a lot easier If you have a square nosed shovel, you can make your straight line easier with that, too.
