Why can't I gain weight? I have a job where I sit all day, I hardly do any excercise, I am always hungry and eat a ton, I never watch what I eat, I eat lots of protien, drink a protien drink everyday etc. ( 2500 cals+)
My thyroid has been check and is fine, I do not have diabetes. I am at an age, when most of my friends have put on a little more weight, yet I can't seem to. I did try weight training, it did help, but it just sped up my metabolism, so it made it worse.
The only time when I actually gained 5 pounds was when I went on a cruise and ate 5 coarse meals everyday.
How can I gain weight, or better question, maintain the weight I am without it slipping off?

You have a fast metabolism, just like me. Infact, I am eating right now, and it is midnight. There are some people who burn up stuff really fast.

Assuming you don't have a parasite, it must just be your metabolism. Mine is extremely high too, and I've found that I NEED to eat 5-10 meals a day! This way, I don't get tired or cranky (I might be borderline hypoglycemic). But here's what I do: I can eat whatever I want and not gain an ounce, but I've found that healthier foods help me maintain my weight better. Try eating protein-rich foods before bed (although it might affect your sleep), like nuts, but not meat. Avoid animal fats as much as possible, as well as excess sugar. I have no idea why, but for me, meat seems to keep me too skinny. I've practically become addicted to almonds, pecans, walnuts, cashews, etc, and I've been able to add on some healthy weight- extra curves and of course muscle. Keep exercising, it's good for you. Your body is probably just meant to be thin. Stop with the protein shakes and get your nutrients naturally. They will be absorbed better. If you're malnourished, your body can't do what it needs to do anyway, and you won't absorb what you need to to keep weight on.

I bet you just have a really fast metabolism. My brother does and it's amazing all the food he eats. He has 5 bowls of cereal AFTER dinner, and the he makes eggs! He is as thin as a stick too, but he works out a lot, so the weight he is gaining, is muscle anyway. I think you should just enjoy that you can eat a 5 course meal and not gain too many pounds! I would kill for that! lol. =D

Eat regular meals, like breakfast, lunch and dinner. Then eat in between these meals. Eat large proportions. And when you get hungry at work drink Ensure or a protein shake or eat a protein bar.
Here is a homemade recipe:
Snickers
Evaporated milk
Eggs
Milk and blend.

its called a high metabolism some people are blessed with it, be happy that you arent chunky for some people they probably wish they were you... too gain weght though start finding foods with high fructose corn syrup it is very hard for body to digest it. eat things high in fat as well like burgers the non lean kind bacon hotdogs etc. keep on excercising though it is good for you and will buidl muscle that will make you gain weght as well...

I wish I had that problem... other than that, I would have to say go to your doctor and ask him to do a full check on your body to make sure all your hormones are ok.
