if i get an OC-768(40Gbps) on an XP OS i'd have better bandwidth than and ISP backbone rite now, so like what do i do, will it even work

First, explain who in their right mind gets an OC-768 right now - almost no one has them so you would never realize the speed. And if you had one - or had anywhere near the money to get one, you wouldn't be asking this question here because you could easily hire a team of engineers to answer this question.

Put simply, you run at the speed of the slowest connection. If your XP LAN speed maximum is 100Mb, then you could have a 40 Gb link, but you could NEVER use more than 1/400 of it at once to one computer - if you had an appropriate router, you could put 400 computers on the connection and each could be downloading from a different site at full speed.

The bandwidth capabilities of your system will have no real impact on what you get when access internet via your ISP. This is why wireless routers which are a lot lower are a good idea for sharing internet connections, since the bandwidth you get with an ISP is normally less than 1 MB, and wireless B goes 11 MB max.

u will have internet speeds of ur ISP, it will work
