I am trying to use Frontpage to update my website. I have done it successfully in the past. Using FTP, I enter the properties for the remote site and click OK. I get an error message saying 'the folder /public_html does not exist on the remote web location. Would you like a folder created at that location?' I clicked no.

It was my understanding that it would be impossible for my site to exist without that public folder. Is this a basic bonehead web thing I am missing?

Joseph - no go.
Eric - I'm not sure about the permissions. I did this two months ago with no problems. My web host has switched providers, but I don't think that would change it. The instructions by my host are the same. I'm waiting for an answer from them.

Just guessing here, but
1) Are you sure you are FTPing to the correct directory ?
2) The permissions may have changed on the directory, and therefore FTP cannot write to them ?

It depends how the remote server is setup. If the defaul is to put you in the /public_html folder then this would explain why no folder exists. Best thing to do is just upload a simple test page and try and display it. If displays fine then you can be sure that you are uploading to the correct place.

Don't type "/public_html", type "./public_html"

The dot is important! It tells it that the folder is in THIS directory. Tell me if it works now.
