I have a family of 4 in my yard (mom, dad, two kids). They love it when I barbecue. I think they also eat pet food that people leave out for their cats and dogs. I also hear coyotes from time to time.

I have skunks wander through my back yard almost every night. What's weird is, I LIKE their smell - as long as I don't have to wear it.
Some nights it is risky. I don't spot them in the dark until I almost stumble on them. Lucky for me they do their best to warn me.
One night I'm outside tossing the trash, saying aloud, "No stinkers. No stinkers". I figure that my voice will let any skunks know I'm there so they won't be surprised and let loose. So I hear a rustling and see a skunk trotting straight towards me. I didn't stick around to learn his intentions.
I put up a thin wire fence across one of the open spots in my wooden fence. Next night, I hear this screeching and fussing noise out there. I went out with a flashlight for a look. It turns out a big, fat skunk was up against the wire and was really pissed off. It probably couldn't see the wire and didn't much like the way it's meandering was being blocked by an invisible force. So, there I was shining a light and this angry skunk turned around and gave me the evil glare and the foot-stomping routine. My feet did me proud and I didn't get hosed.
Yeah, I have skunks in my neighborhood.

No, lucky me, but we have raccoons, opossums, coyotes & squirrels in our neighborhood. I'm not in the country side, though. They all live near by woods. Funny...
