Hmm yeah the cake is a great idea or you could cook for him! That will be the perfect gift! He will sure to love it! Hmm or buy for him a perfume or a shirt.

In the first place, what does he like? Work from there... and within your budget. Is he into work? Does he like gaming or collect toys / figurines etc? Does he read certain magazines? Is his wallet / belt / pen too old that need to be replaced? Did he hint or mention that he need / want anything?

Good to give your gift with a card... together with birthday hugs & kisses... Spend time with him... Let him have a joyous birthday...

I've thought of several ideas... you can give more than one...
1. card - make or buy (show your appreciation with words & sweet nothings)
2. chocolates (wishing him a sweet birthday)
3. watch / accessories (something to treasure like time with you)
4. wallet (something useful & practical)
5. pen (something smart for him to use at work / school)
6. shirt / pants / tie / belt
7. game / toy / figurine (if he likes)
8. game console e.g. Nindento DS (dual screen), PSP, PS3 (coming soon), XBOX 360 - If too expensive, offer to subsidize his cost if he intends to buy...
9. latest gadgets e.g. CREATIVE ZEN, APPLE IPOD... If too expensive, offer to subsidize his cost if he intends to buy...
10. magazine subscription (of his favourite magazine) e.g. 6mth, 1-yr up to you
11. dinner treat (guys like treats too)
12. favourite cd / dvd
13. cook him a birthday meal
14. bake him a cake
15. make him a gift (handmade / handicraft etc)
16. plan a special itinery for him (whole day out / whole day at home)
17. others

bake or buy a cake for him then give him a benefit of doubt by asking him whether he loves you.if he says yes, give him some sweets, biscuit, chocolate etc and then the gift.if he ask why,saw him the gift and know that he is buying time and the answer will deepend with his creativity.wish all the best.

Just be with him on the day of his bday, no item/gifts can exchange your presence there.

How old is he? What are his hobbies? What line of work is he in?

Remember, the only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys. Find out what kind of toy he thinks is fun and buy it for him.

Toys in this case could be anything from tools to music to books to art to electronics to kitchen knives to silk ties to sporting goods actual real toy store toys. Find out what is 'play' to him and buy him his kind of toy.
