How do i set the IP address for networking (without hub)?

now i bought network card and a cross cable. adter i install the card and the driver, how do i set the IP address?

1.right click on your network connection.
2. choose properties.
3.click on "networking' tab.
4.double click on "internet protocol(tcp/ip)"
5.you can set ip adress and subnet mask here.
