Think of the last person who you know that died. You have the chance to give them 1 hour of life back, but you have to give up one year of yours. Do you do it? Why or Why not?

Years ago, a relative of mine died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. They began trying to resuscitate her the second she hit the ER. By the time they brought her around, she'd had no hear beat for approx. 16 minutes. She regretted for the rest of her life that she'd been saved. One, because there was brain damage. But, two, and more importantly, she said she had been in a wonderful place, without care or pain, and did not want to come back. So, to answer your question, no, I would not bring someone back. Not because the trade off is inequitable, but because it would be a selfish thing to do.

The last person was my dad. He died of cancer in real pain. He wanted release. I wouldn't prolong his pain so I wouldn't give up a year if my life so he could suffer for one hour longer.

No. My Grampa was old had been wishing to die for the 2 last two years of his life. He was very sick and the burden of taking care of him fell on my Gramma and it was very difficult for her, but harder for him. I wouldn't do it because if I did it, it would be for selfish reasons, not what he wanted. Unless I could give him an hour of his life back before he was sick.

Not sure. My aunt and he didn't get along well as I hear, but they were my grandparents' favourite son-in-law. Maybe. Depends on how he'd spend it.

I would if he actually knew he was going to die. It was sudden, and heartbreaking for my aunt. She needed warning. I'd give him an hour to let her know, and tell everyone he loved them. I've got plenty of years to go... He can have one.

No to giving them an hour. They were in pain for too long already, just futile attempts to keep the body alive.

No. He squandered his life by being an alcoholic and never getting any help, and he was pretty damn miserable at the end. (This was my grandfather.) Before the cirrhosis set in, he spent much too much time making us--my mom, her siblings, me and my brother, our cousins, and our grandmother--miserable.

If it were my father we were talking about, I'd say yes, in a heartbeat.
