My cousin took the course and says it is really hard because you analyse yourself a lot. Any ways I can prevent this? Or any other general information?

Thanks a lot.

I would say to pay strict attention to all the first things that are told you in the early days. Like really understanding all the theorists inside out. for they will be the basis from which all your analysis will ever come from. Its easy to let the first lectures go out the window in the first flush of college days and making new friendships. It doesn't matter if you analyse yourself as long as it is not an obsession. After all you are just putting your learning into practice. Good luck, work hard and enjoy your college days!

Don't fall behind in your readings! That's the easiest way to make you not enjoy the field, really.

Learn the terms, the psychological "jargon" and you will understand more and appreciate what you read more. Read as much as possible.

Oh, when you have time, read "I Never Promised You a Rose Garden." You will love this paperback book (written in the 50s or 60s). Forget those movies about Faces of Eve and "split personalities" (multiple personalities) since Hollywood REALLY strayed from the truth in those stupid movies, and don't go off making assumptions; just enjoy the experience of learning. Just read and listen and stay up to date with your assignments.

There are many fields open to those majoring in Psychology. Did you know, for example, that the way grocery products are placed in large supermarket chains are based on psychological test results? Or the color schemes in hospitals and fast food restaurant? Or the way malls are designed with stairs and elevators that make you go through almost the entire length of each floor? Or, the way some ads are play with the products to entice people to watch, or catchy jingles or slogans? Or the car ads that use pretty faces (women, famous athletes) and popular celebrities, music, etc., to sell products?

Well, it's an exciting field! (Successful motivational speakers use many psychological ploys, too). Have fun and good luck!

OK, first of all, you can't prevent analyzing yourself, in fact, analyzing yourself makes the matwerial "come alive" so to speak. Once you relate concepts to your own behavior, psychology turns more and more into common sense. The only stuff that might be hard is the severe psychotic disorders (schizophrenia, schizo affective disorder, etc.). But if you're really meant to be a psychologist, you'll ind those really interesting and worth studying. Also, there is a TV series hosted by Philip Zimbardo that's very good. You're library might have it on tape. Check it out.

you're by no ability too previous for something. I even have human beings in my class that are like 40-50 and nevertheless attempting to acquire their AA degree to get their BA. Age is in basic terms a style, and that i'm in basic terms 19, and attending a community college hoping to flow right into a college to get my BA, and then a masters afterwards. i'm probable going to be 20 something or 30 something on the time, yet whats up, why no longer learn something you like? and then get the activity you go with. you at the instant are not previous in any respect.

There's nothing wrong with analyzing yourself. Don't try to prevent it. Also, keep in mind that no matter how much you learn in college regarding psychology, it will pale in comparison to what you will learn on the job.

Do NOT get behind in reading. It'll be impossible to catch up. Be active in class, especially in discussions. Don't be afraid to go to professors office hours, either if you have a question or just want to discuss the class. But I would say that there's so much reading in psych, that's the most important thing: to stay on top.

If this is just an Intro Psych class, it shouldn't be too hard and it is a lot of fun. Analyzing yourelf is good, are you kidding me? I wish more people did...but I guess if they did, you'd be out of a job...hehe. Good luck and study hard! ♥
