almost all the games liked by u and ur bro can be played on PS3. I recommend PS3. Furthermore, Playstation is less likely to break down... There'd been a few cases of Xploding Xboxes already

If you're going by a strictly games point of view, I believe that the PS3 will likely edge out the 360. This is due to the fact that the Playstation has been around for much longer (in game system years) than the XBOX, and therefore has a much larger and much more varied game developer/publisher base, which in turn leads to a much larger variety of games.

Shortly after the PS3 launch you will begin to see platform exclusive (available only on one system) titles, so this will have to be taken into consideration.

If you're not going strictly by titles available and/or future availability of titles, the best thing to do is get a side-by-side comparison of all the pertinent details, price inevitably being a huge deciding point for many people.

Another key point to consider is Online Gaming/Capabilities. Microsoft is hands-down the leader here; for the fee of about $50/year you receive unlimited access to so many amazing features; text/voice mail, friends lists, multiplayer gaming, XBOX Live Arcade (which I'm a huge fan of), video chat (coming very soon), leaderboards, and lots of other great features. Sony is wading into new territory here, and it's just something to consider.

I am a proud owner of a 360. I'm on my second unit because there was indeed a hardware failure of some sort (I don't know what exactly was the problem) but Microsoft was much more helpful than I could have EVER imagined--they sent me a box w/ instructions to return the unit and I had a new one back on top of my TV in less than a week. Sure, I was a little irritated, but they even went as far as to re-register the unit under my name (with the new S/N) and made every effort to ensure I was happy. Even the guy on the phone sounded sincerely apologetic!

Like other people say, just my two cents worth :-)

I will base my answer on the games that you named:

The next major game in the GTA series will be on both the 360 and PS3. (The graphics will most likely be the same.)

Elder Scrolls will be exclusive to 360 (and PC) for quite awhile. (If you are into the king of RPGs, Final Fantasy, you may want to get a PS3.)

Madden 07 will be on both PS3 and 360.

Future Smackdowns will most likely be on both systems.

Currently, the 360 has a better line-up of games but I'm waiting for the PS3. A year from now, they will have the best games.

There really isn't a way to tell. The PS3 isn't out yet and we don't know a lot about the library of games yet. Though I'm getting a 360 due to the price of the PS3. Just my two cents on the matter.

Definately PS3, it's going to be way better than the Xbox 360. I've also heard that the Xbox 350 breaks down alot and has alot of problems, eg, overheating.
The reason the PS3 price is going to be high is because it is of GOOD QUALITY!

PS3 may look like a toaster but its way betterv than the 360. PS3 is next gen man and it plays all your favourite games on it but beware !!! Never leave it in the kitchen

I've been a supporter of PS series console since it first came out. Trust me, nothing beats the playstations, XBOX 360 is a flop

Let me explain this in satire format:

I just can’t wait for this x-mas. I have been working my *** off at two jobs to earn the money to by one. I’m still looking for a third job so I can save the money to buy at least one game to play on launch.

Everyone thinks I’m crazy, but I’m getting such a deal on this. Just look. For $600 (Plus tax) I get a gamming system with HD graphics... I know that my eyes barely can tell the difference between a nice HD picture of 720p (like Xbox "360") compared to 1080p on the PS3, but I mean if Sony says it looks better, then I just have to take there word for it... (Did anyone see the trailer for) Grand Turismo HD for PS3, it looked just like Grand Turismo 4 on PS2. I couldn’t tell the difference, but it looked great. And then there’s the 60GB hard drive, and USB ports (to charge the PS3 Controller), built in LAN connection, and the HDMI port (for plugging in your 1080p HDTV).

Oh and speaking of 1080p lets not forget I’m getting a built in Blu-Ray player. So now if I wanted to I can re-buy my entire DVD collection again in this brand new unstandardized format... I know the movies are going to cost more than DVD’s or even more than the other competing HD-DVD format, but Sony was so nice to include a player in my PS3, so I guess I could spend the few extra dollars and just buy Blu-Ray movies. I only have to replace about 200 DVD’s in my collection anyway... Once again though the quality of the picture is going to be awesome. The in-store demo of HD-DVD and Blu-Ray compared to DVD looks so much better. Well my eyes didn’t notice a difference but the sales guy at Best Buy, said it was better. So I’ll just take his word for it.

Then there’s the online features. Just like Nintendo's upcoming new console, "Wii", I can pay to download old games to play on the system, well sort of. That is once I buy a PSP, and a some Memory cards for it (because you can’t play them on the PS3),... but it’s going to be cool after I transfer them to the PSP. And the games come complete with the original long load times. Then I can play games like Ridge Racer and Parappa the Rapper, not Mario, Zelda, or Metroid.

Also I can’t wait to play games using the new PS3 controller. It looks just like the PS2, except it has some motion sensing abilities. It’s a little like Nintendo’s new controller but this one is way different. No, it doesn’t have a speaker and microphone built in like Nintendo’s, but what would you need that for anyway, Karaoke? It doesn’t detect all the range of motions either. So I can’t swing it around like a tennis racket, or samurai sword. I can’t even use it like a gun to shoot things on screen like Nintendo’s [controller]. But I don’t care, who wants to do that anyway... There’s only game that uses the motion ability at the moment, but that’s ok, I can only afford to get one game anyway right now. Oh and it’s a good thing they removed the rumble feature out of the joystick, unlike Nintendo who kept the rumble feature in. That would so mess me up when I’m trying to control it.

Now I just though about it, and I’m going to get the cheaper version of the PS3 (that’s $500 instead of $600). Good thing to, because I can use that extra $100 to put towards a PSP or help pay the credit card bill on a new widescreen HDTV. The cheapest 1080p HDTV set I could find was for about $2,000. But hey, that’s ok, that’s why I have two jobs. And so what if the cheaper version doesn’t have a bigger HD, or USB ports or an HDMI port. Who needs that anyway.

Damn it, wait?. If I buy the cheaper PS3 model what’s the point in buying a 1080p HDTV. (According to Sony) without the HDMI port I won’t be experiencing true HD gaming. Isn’t that what I’m buying it for? Next generation games? Ok forget getting the cheap model then. Good thing I realized that now, it would have been a stupid choice. Guess I have to now sell my 2 year old 1080i HDTV. Ok that's taken care of. But with two jobs, where am I going to find the time to play? Oh who care anyway, at least people will envy me for having a PS3. This Christmas everyone else will just have a stupid Xbox "360" &/or a Nintendo "Wii", and who really wants those.

Update 06.23.06: I know what I can do to offset the high cost of getting a PS3. I'll just buy used games instead of new. Who wants to pay $70 (or more) for a new game when I can get it in the same new condition buying it used for way less.

Update 06.29.06: Estimated price of latest Blu-Ray movies (via Best Buy's web site) are about $40.

Update 07.05.06: Sony is working on technology that would prevent people from using a used game on their console

Update 07.11.06: Sony may charge for their so called (free) online network.

Update 07.19.06: There are only (2) two 1080p HDTV that are available on the market for use with the PS3. The rest for holiday '06.
