Watching BBC World News, the world must be getting the impression that America is no better than a third world Country. I know better because just outside Chicago there are permanent Shanty Towns without the devastation of Katrina.

I don't think I am proud.I love New Orleans.I
like the style of most places there.Even though I know there are some not so great areas.I
think it is a very unique place and I believe it is the best city in this state.I guess it's because I
have always been intrigued by the city life.I love the traffic and all the lights and all the tall buildings. The reason people are considering it
a third world city is because of what it looks like now after the ***** of a hurricane came through and made slush out of those neighborhoods. Also I've noticed that all of the sudden there is strange murders going on over there and so much drugs and that isn't the part that surprises me.What surprises me is the amount of prostitution that has been going on.
I don't know but I will always love N.O. but right now things are different than they used to be.

Not sure why you express so much pride at American suffering, but if that's your thing so be it.

The fact is that New Orleans was close to a third-world city before Katrina, but the locals were too content to live off its reputation as a city of good times to realize that its physical, social and economic infrastructure was rotten and frail.

The federal government didn't elect the New Orleans leadership, nor did is select and train its law enforcement and response personnel. The federal government could not hold together the social fabric of the city in the face of an unprecedented crisis because that fabric was coming apart from the inside.

New Orleans should be a lesson to all cities that believe that shopping malls and amusement parks can drive an economy. It should stand as a lesson to all communities that believe in hand-outs over self-sufficiency. And most of all, it should stand as a lesson that what stands between law and lawlessness is not a city police car or government tank, but the character of the community and its leaders.

My relatives are from Europe and they know darn well that the USA is not a third world country. They understand full well that nobody has power against nature no even the USA. Besides, I remind them that there is a great French influence in Louisiana so no wonder that that state is the most corrupt and the biggest failure. They are also aware of the gangsters who were shooting at FEMA rescuers. They do not see it the way you wish they would regardless of what their media say.

Funny your name is humanist - how about terrorist?? That suits you much better.

Oh are you there helping out??? Oh no that's right - you are on Yahoo Answers watching the liberal TV station who only reports liberal news - and you all believe everything just cause it is in print and online - mindless and brainwashed - all of you that think that just cause there is a story on the news or a website online that it means it is real. Do you also believe in unicorns??

...sitting in your comfy little house whining like a liberal does - whine whine whine and no action - just all talk. Sad really - it is. I feel sorry for all of you. Ignorance is contagious and is taking over - if you don't like the USA -leave. Why do all of you people choose to stay and complain? Why??

Hmm, I kind of always saw it as a third-world quality city. Now it just looks the part.

Someone explain why we would spend a penny to rebuild a city below sea level. This was the perfect opportunity to build a new, shining city on the sea...inland.

You have to ask yourself just 1 question.
"Why is N.O. not getting fixed when townships in Mississippi, just over the state line, are?"
In Mississippi, the local & State Governments filed a comprehensive plan for re-building.
THat plan was accepted & monies were sent out.
THe monies were used for the purpose they were sent.
THere's still PLENTY left to do, but the start is a good one.
.
.
In N.O., the local & State Governments refuse to file such a plan & don't think they should be required to justify the Grant monies.
They want to be trusted (ha ha ha).
All they have to do is file the paperwork!
It's the local & State Governments that are causing the delay in re-building.
"Why?" you ask?
Corruption.
