2 adults in our house (ages 50 and 48).
I stopped rough-counting the music CDs *in the house* when the tally went over 400....that was just what was found in the TV room. Total, cars and everything?----maybe 600. And neither of us are musicians!
Cassette tapes: perhaps 150
Old vinyl albums: maybe 200.
45s (single-song disks): about 100.
Gaming and computer CDs? Probably about another 150.
I'm profoundly glad your survey wasn't on how many BOOKS AND MAGAZINES one had purchased in a lifetime! (Amazon and BordersBooks send us Valentine's cards every year---g)

I have Total 343 Cds. of which 136 music Cds, 93 movie Cds, 48 programme CDs, 28 Games Cds, 38 empty Cds.
This for you only. But to know how many Cds others have will never serve any purpose.

I'm 36 and probably about 200 cds. If you want to count vinyl and tapes (remember, I came from a time before CDs were invented), its more like 800 or so.
