No 30 years shouldn't matter. Maybe 3 years would. It would make you look like you were financially inadequate and had low morales-but people change. Go to your lawyer and have the charge expunged from your record. This can only be done one time, but nobody will ever see you were ever charged with this (Has to be at least 10 years ago I think).

It shouldn't stop a person as long as the sentence was served, they did not get into trouble again, the charge really was just shoplifting and they are really good with kids. Just be sure to be honest on all paperwork and expect the background checks and approvals to take a bit longer.

It doesn't matter. I know for a fact that my father used to smoke pot in the 70's... so called "hippie days." But he's an excelllent father, succesful businessman. I couldn't ask for a better parent. 30 years ago... that would have put the person to be in his or her early teen years aka the "experimenting" days. We've all done things we're not proud of. But does that change who we are as a person? (I don't mean killing etc. petty stuff like smoking pot or shoplifting).

Shoplifting 30 years ago wouldn't even show up on a criminal check.

I don't know what the connection between a 30 year old crime and a murder is.

You need to be clearer in your writing. I don't understand what you need?
