I have been playing both the guitar and drums for over 6 year. In my opinion drums would be a better choice. Reason being is that you are not required to read musical notes on a staff. Also guitars may be hard on your fingers at first. Also after mastering the drums you will become very fundamentally sound in terms of rhythm which is important if you ever decide to play another instrument some day. Anyways it is ultimately your decision. You should pick the instrument that you are most interested in so that it will be harder to quit.

Good luck with your decision. Music is a wonderful art.

I play guitar, but really wish I would've learned drums too. If it makes any difference, a good drumset is going to cost a LOT more than good guitar equipment. And as for simplicity, guitar is a lot easier to learn, in my opinion. As a drummer, you'll have to learn to keep a tempo, change tempos, and change meters with other musicians if you end up playing in a band. Guitarists follow the lead of the drummer, so I think drumming is a bit harder...

Not the crappy drumming though, like Green Day or Blink 182, but the talented kind like Led Zeppelin or Rush.

started playing guitar when i was thirty eight yrs old...i wish i would have done it a looooong time ago...the fire still hasn't went out...what people must understand is you cant just [play ] an instrument...it takes a lot of sacrifice and practice..that said...i say go to the music store every time you get a chance and try things out...it is ultimately up to you...all people are different...
i can tell you this tho...i cant play drums, but i can play guitar pretty well...and if i can do it, anyone can!!! samash has a very liberal playing policy...any of the superstores also do...if you are from a small town and cant get out much...buy a cheap acoustic ...learn some chords...beat the sh#$ out of that thing!!!

Start with the guitar. It's probably easier to get lessons, plus it's portable and a full drum set is harder to transport. But don't limit yourself, learn both. You could get one of those small electronic drum sets to learn the basics before moving on to bigger and better things.

Drums

it depends if you have rhythym or not. i wanted to play drums for a while...but my brother started to teach me and it went downhill from there. i mean...i have rhythym...but, you need to get the beat just right to play drums. and you've got to think about what each limb is doing. right arm, left arm, one or both feet. Kudos to those who play drums. But, I play guitar. its easy to pick up and if you want to play more difficult stuff than begginner music, it's easy to progressively move up in levels of difficulty. If guitar interests you, a good place to learn songs, chords and tabs is www.ultimate-guitar.com....if you look up a song, it shows you the finger positioning of any chord in the song. it's easy to understand if you know how to read it. so yeahhh. Good luck!

Why limit yourself? Do both. Drums will help you keep the beat when you're playing your guitar. Learn them both.

Drums if you want to join or start a band, guitar if you're just doing it for fun.

If you have plenty of free time, definitely learn both. my neighbor across the street tried both and now he's pretty good at both instruments. makes you more versatile, especially if you ever join a band.
