Hello Pancho,
It is very disappointing to see any National Football Federation take this kind of stand with a player. Of course we cannot be sure that there are not other issues or circumstances that the public are not aware of. He has served his country with pride and commitment and if he has decided that International football has become too much for him, then that choice should be left for him to make and of course supported and respected after everything he has given to his country. I do not feel that it is morally correct for them to basically blackmail him into continuing in a role he no longer feels comfortable playing, though there may be the possibility that contractually he committed himself until a certain date post WC and they maybe holding him to that for the next few upcoming matches. Who knows. Personally I think he has paid his dues and fulfilled his service and they should let him play out the remainder of his career where and how he chooses.

domergue has been an a** for a while - the only reason why he is still the national coach is the imbelievable world cup of France and per Makelele contribution he should have given him some slack
as far as Makelele - per the french instances (FFF) even though he mentioned that he would retire after the WC, he needed to send them a certified letter to this effect and this is why they are playing politics. On the other hand - Even though Chelsea is paying his salary, they have nothing to say about a player being called for national duty - this is why the FIFA is protecting the national federations by threatening to ban anyone who has no valid reason to miss an internional selection.

I definitely agree with you. As Makelele is not longer young any more he has to focus on either the club or the country commitment and he choose to retire and focus on the club football. I think the french manager should let Makelele go as he had already decided to quite international football. The manager should force him to play as he is not young any more, he is more likely to be prone to injuries and his skills is recently declining on his ageing leg. He is a human being and he have the right to decide whether to play or not ot play for the national team. But recently he has be threatened by the manager to play for the national team or he could play for his club. He should bring the manager to court for threatening him

I think it is ridiculous that the French football federation can be allowed to ban him from playing for Chelsea if he decides to retire from international football.
Why would any national coach want to pick a player who no longer has the desire to play?

It's a FIFA regulation and FIFA supercedes, if a player refuses to play for his national team he is then forbidden to play for his club. That's the rule.
Makelele sent a signed letter on Aug. 22nd 2006 to the FFF that he had retired from the National team. Domenech ignored it and called him anyway. FIFA has inquired about wanting to see the letter. I don't think that he would have to go if he didn't want to. We'll see.

I totally agree; it's time to give younger players the chance to play, if you don't they lose interest and desire to play. The national team needs to build around Trezeguet and Henry. Although Beckham has given his all for England, he won't be part of the national team any longer not his choice but a reality of life and sport.

I am a keen Chelsea fan
They should not force Maka to play for France
He said he would retire after the World Cup, so why is the FFF doing this.
And they are threatening Chelsea aswell!
The FFF are crazy!

I dun think the national FA have the authority to do such a thing. He is contracted by legal means to Chelsea FC. Under the court of Law , he must play for Chelsea as they are paying his wages.
