how to restrict the yahoo messenger live chatting

and go to contact and change the settings as you require

if u want restrictions 4 ur kid or sumthing, then just put down his age as below 16 and he won't b able to go to chat rooms
otherwise u can be invisible, delete people from ur chat list or go and block through da chat screen...

do u mean, u want to restrict someone from using messenger or u don't want to speak to someone? u can delete the whole messenger if u don't want someone to use it. u can block/ignore or remain invisible if u don't want to talk to someone. but don't think there are any other means of restricting from usage of messenger.

Sign in as invisible (or) if u r interested in chatting with only some of them, be available to only those persons by:
right click on the person name-->Shealth Settings-->Appear online.
or if u r not interested in getting any messages from a particular person, then ignore that person:
messenger-->preferences-->ignore list-->add....

Do you mean with people on your contact list or just in general?
There is a feature were you can only talk to people that are on your own list, and others are blocked out. I think that's about it or you can set your status to "invisible".
