Ok, so I just got my first dishwasher. And I read even the "water miser" option takes 80 minutes? Is this normal? This thing just doen't make any sense. Oh, it's one of those portable ones that you hookup to the faucet. Any tips?

I think if you read closer you might find out that the times given are approximate times. Many dishwashers have a heat boost and will pause to heat the water to a hotter temperature if your water temperature is not very hot coming into the dishwasher. It will take longer to complete the cycle. They usually do this for the main wash and for the final rinse.

No tips really, but it does make sense. "Water miser" refers to how much water the dishwasher is using during that wash cycle. It doesn't have anything to do with wash time. Basically the dishwasher will only pump in so much water, and then take a longer time swirling that water around in the rinse or wash cycle. Probably it'll only use about 3 gallons of water for the entire cycle from start to finish.

With dishwashers, it seems the less water they use, the longer the cycle takes. Yes, it;s normal. It sends out a little water and sprays the dishes... then somehow it "senses" how much soil is passing through a filter. This process is repeated a few times.

At least the new dishwashers are quiet!

Dishwashers take hell of a long time to finish its cycles. I guess water miser should take about that time, though I have never use that one. I normally start my washer at night before going to bed and when I open it up in the morning, the dishes are still hot.

i have a portable dishwasher and it only take about 1 hour to wash (not dry- cost to much electricty-just open the door when done washing saves money) load, fill with soap, turn to wash and leave for 1 hour should be done by then. water miser sounds like a time delay- don't need it unless you are going to let it run after you go to bed
