Look on the console for a shift light. This tells you the best shift point for the best economy. I like to call this little warning light a "shift, stupid!" light. You can rev it higher for a little better performance but your mileage will suffer a bit. If you are turning 4 grand in 5th gear, then you have a real low geared vehicle and is probably built for in town driving.

You are dealing with and engine that doesn't make much power to begin with, so it is made to work by gearing the differential low. Eighty MPH is about all this thing was designed to go. You could try putting a six speed transmission in it, and that would help a lot. A 1.5 engine is very small, and don't make power enough to gear it any different. The truth of the matter is; you can't do anything outside of installing a gearbox that has more speeds.

no longer consistently. look on the ideal kit ratios on the two. some circumstances the 6th kit is the comparable because of the fact the 5th kit in a 5 speed. each so often it truly is larger, yet then you definately run into the themes of the pc reducing out the engine while a fastened genuine speed is reached. Which in many situations potential that the 6 speed has no benefit over the 5, different than kit over lap. yet is has the disadvantage in weight, the two as a horse skill draw (better reciprocating weight) and ineffective weight. Me i'm going to stay with the older 5 speeds, one hundred forty might desire to be quickly sufficient for every person!

What is the redline? 4k RPM doesnt seem bad especially when you are going at 80mph. The car does not have a whole lot of hp and the rpm range for the gears seems like the optimal rpm to switch gears would be 2,5k

wait longer to shift in lower gears, like wait till 5000rpm in 1st 2nd 3rd and in forth go to about 4500 and then you can be about 3000 going 80 in 5th, but man thats a slow *** car, i can be in 3rd going 90.
