Do you really think they contribute as equals to the society. All I read about is violence, black on black murders, welfare, baby mothers, out of control young.. are things really that bad?

Like we saw in Katrina , its evident that this government could careless about addressing is long over-due domestic and internal issues.Pointing fingers and saying "take responsibility for your self's " may sound good at church...but will hardly begin to form a realistic goal of a truly inter grated society..by relegating a whole race to the "back streets" America has suffered innumerable losses in its Politics,Sciences,Medicine, and the Arts.

Its the way that some of the young uneducated black men dress and act that scares the **** out of most people. You could say the same thing for any other category of persons though. 12% of the american population is black, yet they are the largest majority in the prison system. But this is do to bad education from public schools.

Watch Bowling for Columbine. In one scene Michael Moore talks to African Americans who are visiting Canada. The African Americans tell Mr. Moore that they are treated better in Canada than they are in the United States.

Also, watch the movie Crash.

there are many fine black folks in America. I have no doubt about that. unfortunately, our schools are doing nothing to allow students in minority groups to flourish. this is a shame because many cultures belong to this society and if we had more of a mixture of history than the one we are used to learning, we might catch the attention of our youngsters and keep them in school a little longer rather than pretty much turning them to the streets.

I believe that it all starts in the schools, and if we did a better job of keeping our kids interested, we would see less violence on the streets. we would have more knowledgeable students wanting to go to college and become good citizens in this society...but you have to think..is the government WANTING for minorities to kill themselves off??? why is education something that they can't fix? it's not impossible!!! the ideas are there. we just need state and national representatives that WANT this world of ours to be more positive and productive. It seems though, that this nation thrives on these types of crimes. it provides help like welfare to keep people in this system while others look down on people like this. sad, but it has a lot of truth to it. think about it...

I think that use of the term "African American" is ridiculous. We ALL came from Africa, if one pays attention to science.

I do feel that black Americans are following some horrible role models, from Jesse Jackson to Gangsta Rappers.

I'd like to put Bill Cosby on a pedestal and have them listen to him instead of some punk spewing 'put a cap in yo a** if you disrespet me' lyrics.

Things are bad but getting better IMHO. You must remember that this is only the second generation where they have had the chance to contribute to society.

well... I think the question is... can they...

they, on average, go to sub-par schools... they have sub-par social structures... and then these issues perpetuate themselves, since those who don't get decent educations, don't value education... and so they pass that on to their children...

the fact is... a very large percent of wealth is inherited (I've heard around 80 percent in the U.S.)... and if few blacks have that wealth... and it's mainly being inherited... how do you break that cycle?

the government (both state, local and federal, in most instances) clearly have no care to make the schools better or help people better themselves...

there are so many attitudes that say "blacks are poor, because they are lazy and won't work"... but so many do work... and work hard... so how does that make any sense?

Yes, racists now adays are increasing, but yet we see white women with blacks all the time. Its degrating to the elderly and others who believe blacks and whites shouldnt mix. My family is by no means prejudice, but simply do not believe in murder, mixx marriages, or dating blacks. Everyones different, but most welfare people are whites i dont see what that has to do with the blacks. Baby mothers come from every different kind of civilation or color. African americans do contribute equally, but NOT all.

Every race has their trash. Hating people because of the color of their skin is pointless and ignorant. There are so many valid reasons to hate people, why pick something that cannot be changed and makes no difference?

But I will say that I am opposed to the hyphenated American thing. (African-American, Mexican-American, etc.) Youre either simply American or youre not.
