Are there any ways to be very flexible besides old fashion stretching? I'm a guy and I'm not flexible. I'm in Tae Kwon Do and since I'm not flexible, I can't do the high kicks. Any suggestions to help me and be flexible enough to do a split?

My legs can only stretch so wide that it's ALMOST a 45 degree angle

Maybe the split is not what you should concentrate on. Warm ups and stretches can come from Gymanastics and they are very helpful.
To do the impossible human defeats is to put your body through alot of pain to get there, but in the end, you can impress friends as I do or put a little exhibition show.
You always hear the same ole same ole..show me something.
So I show them something and their jaws drop...like how in the hell did you do that.:)

Actually there are ways. If you'd like to the splits and don't mind not walking for about a week, have someone sit on your shoulders while you stretch your legs out all the wayyyy. You could also try dislocating a joint or something, but that won't do much for the muscle flexibility...
In all seriousness, if you have the time, but not the motivation, you can put your butt up to a wall with your legs in the air, you lying on your back. Then spread your legs out against the wall, and let gravity pull them down. Leave it like that for as long as you can take it, then take a nice hot bath and go to bed. It'll be sore in the morning, but you will be more flexible.
However, you need to work to keep that flexible. I'm a dancer and if I don't stretch for even a few days, I can't reach my toes. If I work at it for a few days regularly, I can get my hands down to my heels.

I can think of nothing more important to flexibility than stretching exercises. I did them when I was a Judoka 35 years ago and I do them today when practicing Tai Chi. Almost any form of sport would require stretching, if for no other reason than to avoid possible muscle injury. These days I like the 8 (Pieces of) Brocades, in addition to other, more standard exercises. http://www.yamatanidojo.com/8_brocade.htm

yoga may be a good start,
my husband put in two 30 min. sessions of stretching each day and in 3 months he was able to do the splits both ways. It takes time to increase flexibility, but a little each day does add up over time and you will reach your goals. Just make sure you warm up and take it slow, torn muscles will slow your progress. good luck on reaching your goals.

Practice. You must practice stretching further everyday. There is no short cut.
