"Rich" or "Poor ", these are comparitive terms, A rich man might suddenly consider himself very poor when he comes across a more wealthier person. In this materialistic and consumeristic world, as far as i know the greed never ends. Both poor as well as rich persons want more wealth more money all the time.

Being "successful" is also comparitive term. Every person has its own definition of what is success. A mother might think, that raising and upbringing her child, as a success in her life.
Success also depends on the goal or motive which is to be attained, for ex. when a 100 m record is achieved by a runner, then he thinks himself as a successful athlete, but when that record is broken his success is no more a "success", now his goal changes. The new goal is to once again become 100 m champion.

The same logic applies to the term "happiness" or "sadness ". It is a state of mind, if u give too much importance to the wordly things and become materialistic, u will always be craving for the things u dont have, wether u are poor or rich. This results in unhappiness.

If you are rich and successful being a jerk is someone else's subjective opinion of you. You won't think that you are a jerk. Being wealthy is always better than being poor. It's a shame so many jerks are rich.

People instinctively think that rich people are jerks. Actually the filth rich are not like you and I and within their circles they are really cool, plus they have a bonus, they are rich! The poor are always jerked around by religious leaders and politicians who feed them lies and tell them them that they are in reality happy when in reality they are poor unsuccessful jerks. Go for the money, you won't be sorry!

Be poor and be happy?? Trick question right?! one can never be happy when you are poor and cant affort for objects of enjoyment. You need cash to be happy most of the times.

do you mean that the rich jerk is not happy? if so then it would obviously be better to be poor. wealth is only a means to happiness, not an end in itself. If your wealth doesn't bring happiness, then what point is there in having it?

if they are both happy, then I guess it would be better to be rich and happy. although if you are a jerk, then there is a good chance you will not be happy.

Life has more choices than that.
Being successful means living well, whether you have money or not, however learning how to have control over the path of your life can bring both wealth and happiness without you becoming a jerk.
There are plenty of nice wealthy folks and plenty of poor jerks.

i have been poor and happy. i am now rich, successful and still happy. i am a jerk once in a while. but i was a jerk when i was poor too. i think i am going to have my cake, and eat it too. =o)

God has measured everything and given to mankind.Being rich has a many complications,worries,unnecessary tensions all leading to mental and physical problems.What is the use of leading a busy life chatting on cell phones,not taking timely food,sleep etc;Doctors advise you dos' and dont's'.Highly competitive life.Whereas platform dwellers do their day work and enjoy life in the evenings by singing songs or listening to FMs.Rich attends humor clubs, yoga and exercise to get rid of complications they invited and there too some one will be disturbing them over cell phone.
