Define or Explain what a "Praise" is in World Literature.?

The question on my college World Literature II exam reads "Explain (briefly) what a Praise is." I found the answers to all of the other questions, but I don't know this one. Ten points to the first person that can answer this. I sort of know what it is, but I can't seem to put it into words. Thanks for your help.

I hope I understand your question correctly. In Sudanese literature: A praise tale has a more religious overtone, relating to praising the Prophet Mohammad, and is generally more popular in the north of the country.
