For several reasons, really-
The most prominent in our Country here being that we are taught to stand for twhat we believe in. But, we are not how to accept what other people believe in, and for us, it may seem as an attack when someone's opinion differs from our own.
It all boils down to how we identify ourselves, and in our society, we define ourselves by what we believe in, by our truths, and when someone comes along with another truth, and has something to back it, we often get scared, and we doubt ourselves, our own truths, and thats something we have a hard time living with.
We are brought up, for the most part, to be proud, and vain, and to not let other peoples ideals get in the way of our own. However, when someone else's ideal rings the slightest bit true, we get scared, becasue that means we may have to redifine ourselves, and that we were flawed in our own ideals- something taht we have a hard time dealing with.
Religion, Politics, and culture, are the main ones that we define ourselves in. These are our core, and when that gets rattled, our balance may often feel broken. And so to regain balance, we lash out, to get to the center again, to get back to our own two feet, so we don't feel vulnerablet o anything else we may veiw as an 'attack'.
Really, it's all flawed human perceptions- while I have religion myself, even I can see where it causes problems- for me, it has caused arguments with alot of people I love, because they question my truths- my beliefes, what makes me able to accpet what I have done to my life, and what makes it to where I can deal with them easier.
For many, that is what it boils down to- acceopting other peoles truths, belifes, whatever, means altering ourselves, and taking on somthing that may make it to where we can't accept our own actions that we have commited in the past, or in the present.

When other's comments are against ones belief, people get offended. It holds good for any way of life, like language, religion, etc. We, as a human being, always trust ourselves more than trusting others. So when we hear something different from what we think, we take that as wrong and get offended. When you are prone to hear such things more and more, you will change your thought about that subject and slowly.
Again, this process can be either natural or it can be forced. When forced, it is called, 'brain-washing' and when natural it is called 'balancing' or 'refining thoughts'.
Man's mind is never steady. It thinks differently at different periods based on the practical experiences. The more you experience, the more the thoughts are refined. So experience more and more!

Some comments offered as 'objective' evaluation are just veiled ways of being insulting - and people see thru those easily and get offended...
On the other hand what in most company would be a mild remark is taken by some as an insult - well, those people are just from the group that loves to make other people wrong so they can feel SO much in the right...
I stay away both from the veiled insulters and the prickly pears...

There is always a nice way to say anything - and I follow the old rule "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all". Certainly I answer rudeness with rudeness sometimes, but I don't think it is worth it to get under anyone elses skin and I am not interested in strangers who aim to do so for me. Life is too short to go looking for a fight - and a mean word almost never changed anyone's mind.
Peace!

I really dont give two sh1ts what people think of me, cuz I don't care about anyone except for my family and myself n our friends. You see, the world DOES revolve around my husband and I our kids. So other than that, *** ya'z all! See, that was pretty easy! Nothing to debate. No attacking you. Not talking about religion, I'm proud to be WHITE, and being a dirty biker, it's always nice to have my Brothers and Sisters who ride along side of us, beside us!
Red. :)

Do you know the difference between a controversial comment and an obnoxious one? Do you express your opinions in a non-threatening polite way, or do you tell people they are wrong in an obnoxious way? Often it's not what you say, but how you say it.
