Intranet Portal

A portal is a web-based tool that allows users to create a customized site that dynamically pulls in Internet activities and desired content into a single page. By providing a contextual framework for information, portals can bring S&T and organizational "knowledge" to the desktop. The National Biological Information Infrastructure (NBII) and the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC®) partnered during 2001 to develop portal pilots for their respective organizations. This has turned out to be very successful joint effort.

DTIC's portal will initially have an inward view and will replace its current intranet. Portal users will have at their disposal all corporate information and the necessary tools for content management and collaboration. DTIC will attempt to provide an "anywhere, anytime" approach to system users within the various DoD security constraints. An agency-wide requirements analysis phase is underway to define the portal content and WEB services needed to fulfill the knowledge management objectives of the project

I misread it as Internet Porno...haha..

Intranet is basically an internal network of web sites. When you work for a company/corporation, most places will have their own mini version of the internet. A company's internal homepage is considered the "portal" to other web sites listed (HR, IT, Security, Health, Payroll) within the company. Normally not accessible by outside world. Think of the portal as an internal web site directory.
