This is not an unusual event. Karr had problems -- serious problems -- to begin with. He obsessed on little girls, and in the JonBenet event, he transferred his obsession to her. Even though he knew he wasn't guilty, he wished he were, because it fitted and fulfilled his fantasies.
This guy is sick, sick, sick, and can not be measured by normal standards.
The DA's hands were tied -- when Karr 'confessed' he had to bring him back for trial, even though he knew from the start that it was an unlikely event. Not until a charge was laid was he able to do the investigation that led to dismissing the charge. It sounds like a very confusing situation, and in many ways it is, but the steps the DA had to go through are there to protect innocent people. Unfortunately, someone like Karr makes a travesty of that process and makes the DA's office look foolish, when in fact, they were simply discharging their duty as required by law, and following the steps required by law.

Maybe he did do it. I wonder if the police ever thought that maybe there were 2 people involved. The DNA in the underwear could be someone elses but Karr still could have committed the crime.
Just my 2 cents, keep in mind that I haven't been following the news story.

There are studies about people like him with a type of disorder that causes them to confess to any crime at all, especially the high profile cases like Jon-Benet Ramsey.
This guy cannot really be tied to any type of crime. he is suspected of some midemeanors, namely possession of child porn.
that in itself is abhorable but I believe he should be watched very carefully or even be put in an institution.
I hope that they catch the dirtbag whoever it is who murdered that child. I hope I never find out, because I might take the law into my own hands. I do not believe in doing that, but in that persons case I would make an exception.

Because he is writing a book, and by saying he committed the murder, he is living the story, I knew all the time he didn`t do that, watch when they show him in the plaine he can`t even look at the camera man, a killer would have no trouble looing them in the eye, he is always avoids the camera, sure sign he is lieing.

There could be a possibility that he actually thought he did it, sometimes when people become obsessed with an object or even another person they're mind tends to become irrational and it goes haywire. He may believe he did it for real, lapse of judgement and rationalization. Or he could have done it for publicity, guilt, attention.

Ya, I think this guy is a mess.
If I would hazard a guess, he got busted in a town that would have hung him up by the balls so he confessed so he could get bailed out and sent to a safer place.
And, it's possible this guy has done some sick stuff, so by confessing he's trying anything, anything to please make this all stop.

The man is seriously disturbed, for one. He became obsessed with the girl, "fell in love" with her. He would do anything to be closer to her, even if that meant being labeled her killer. He wanted to be any part of her life. This was the only way his mind could come up with to be involved with her.
Of course it doesn't make any sense. He is clearly mentally very, very ill.

He will make millions off his new book and even more from the movie. That is why. Or he could not get back home because of money problems and used that so we would go get him. He is a smart one that Captain High Panes.

Because he's friggin' coocoo for Cocoa Puffs. And he probably wanted to get the hell outta Thailand because he was in big trouble and would have been raped or beaten to death in a Thai prison.
