I have refused to tell anyone my race because I am not proud of something I'm not. First of all if you chose to acknowledge race, like on applications, then you are putting yourself in a catagory. That means that you are stereotyped instantly, good or bad. We all do it, it is only natural. When most of the stereotypes are negative for certain races, why would you claim to be proud of it? How come it is okay to have black pride but not white pride? If a white says they are proud to be white everyone has a fit. What are you proud of? Stereotypes that society placed on your claimed race? Race is a nasty thing created to opress certain people. The best way to escape it is to deny a racial identity altogether. Become a person and revolt against classification; I do it and it has done me a world of good. No one will put a label on me that I don't think fits especially when it is not scientifically creditable. Why complain about stereotypes if you are going to write them down on paper?

Wow! I love that...I've always felt "the powers that be" use divisions like race, gender, religion, sexuality as a devisive mechanism to break up a very large power base--the lower and middle classes. Divided and arguing, we never get OUR needs met. We are all just people who despite all of our differences all have very similiar needs and desires. It so sad how effective this tactic actually is. The more they remind us how different we are the, more we make enemies of each other...and are blinded to how similiar we all truly are. United we stand, divided we fall...amen sister!

With race comes identity. And there's nothing shameful about it. Race is not a nasty thing. It is the arrogance of some people who belong to certain races, projecting themselves to possess some superior knowledge and power and their tendency to always look down and ill treat people of other races that is nasty. It is the bad character of some people that puts an ugly face to the race they belong to and not the race itself. There's no such thing as a good race or a bad race. Humanity is divided and identified by race, religion, language and culture but these are the very same things that also brings the different races closer and binds them together for a meaningful survival on this earth.

First of all, sterotypes are not precisely and it's not facts. In your question, it seems like you're treating sterotypes too serious and you think that it's fact. How come it's ok to have black pride but not white pride? There're white pride out there my friend. Are you talking about the caucasians in the United States? Because i'm sure about the white folks in Europe has lots of pride. :). and Who said it's not ok to have white pride? You never know because they don't show it :) And so what if people styreotype your race when you know that those stereotypes are not facts. You can deny your race all you want but it's up to the people around you who actually judge you on the first impression, and they start to label you. :) Now denial of your race isn't neccessary anymore isn't it? Stereotypes go around and around, not just to aim at one race only lol. Races make fun of eachother... so what? I personally don't care about whatever sterotypes toward my race, because i know that it's not completely true. :). And remember that stereotypes are based on hatred, you can't never destroy hatred in this world :) And every race in this world had contributed something good to humanity, that's why people are proud of their race, not even mention about nationalism. So you denied your race because you believe that those stereotypes are all true toward your race or something? or particularly to you?

Just because our avatar is white, does not mean that is what we truly are...
Don't be fooled, we all hide :-)
Why is it we have all these celebrations for Black History Month, Black Family Reunion, but we cannot have a holiday for those who suffered the Holocaust?
Same horrible surcumstances, no recognation!
What about all the things the founders of this country did and died for? Shouldn't they be recognized?
And, for that matter, the things certain races get so upset about were done to them not only by their own race, but also by horrible people who died long before the people here on earth today!
Get over it! Everyone has suffered!
Enjoy the wonderful country you live in, love the life you have and, if you don't like it, change it!
Move! Educate yourself! Get a job!
Whatever it takes :-)

One is born to a race - how can you be proud of something you had no responsibility creating.? - it was given to you.
We have a right to be proud of the way we behave, of what we have accomplished...anything else is phony pride
(Some people are proud when the home team wins! What idiots! They did nothing to contribute to the victory - what do they have to be proud of?) Same goes for race pride...
On the other hand, if other members of one's group misbehaves it is nothing to be ashamed of - if you didnt contribute to the mischief...Same goes for race shame...

i feel that pride as a race is also like celebrating your heritage. I'm proud to be white but i would be just as proud if i was some other color

i think that people should be proud of WHO they are, not necessarily which race they are...my kids are "white" and Hispanic, and when someone asks them "what" they are,(meaning what race) usually their answer is "HUMAN" they have had that same answer since a very young age...ive tried to teach them that everyone worth talking to should be treated with the same respect...u show respect, you get it back, no matter WHAT race you are

It is something to be proud of..., it was what prevented Russia from taking over Finland or Indian getting their Independence..., but also..., there isn't much difference between Nationalism and being proud of one's race... That is where some of the problems begin..., but anyways...., I am proud of where I came from and who I am..., as everyone else..., who we are is who we are and I can't be anyone else....

Very well said!
i am a firm believer that we are all one "race"----The Human Race!!!
I put that on a form one time, where it asked you to check your race and one of the selctions was other with a blank out beside it, so I checked other and wrote in human!

Wholheartedly agree. In college admissions, for example, each human deserves individual inspection. It shouldn't be a function of your race, but of what you did with the resources you started out with in life.
