mm has the command right, but, you can do it from the run box,
in the start menue, i created a batch file that takes my input and makes the message, also found one online made with javascript.

if using windows 98 or 95, a freeware program called winpopup will do it, i think it may even be on your windows cd , and found in your windows folder of a 98 or 95 install.

if your os is nt based, then net send is far better to use.

Yes go to the DOS Prompt and type the following:

NET SEND * "this is a test message"

It will send a message to all PCs on your LAN as a Popup message.

Yes it is already part of Windows, although last time I encountered it was my collegue remotely shutdown the Workstation I was fixing as a prank (by the way that prank is known only by administrators I played that prank before, without the message) That was 7 years ago.

I think it is winpop.exe. Search "NetBIOS network" on MSDN.

If you have client / server lan setup, use administrator account to send a message to all clients that are logged in. Go to administrator tools and go to computers/users section. You can send messages to particular users.

NetSend is another method
net send {name | * | /domain[:name] | /users} message

Another way to do it is enable Messenger Service in Services MMC. Create a vb script to loop through your IP list.

If you are using old windows clients like Win95/98, use WinPOP.
