Be sure to tell your doctor that you are a virgin and that you are worried the exam. It will be a bit uncomfortable but the doctor will use a lubricant to make it a little easier going in and it only takes about a minute. The speculum is sort of shaped like a ducks bill it is about 1 inch wide and rounded at the end, after it is inserted the doctor will slowly open it just enough to do what is needed. Try not to stress too much, just remember not to flex your muscles (that will make it hard to insert) and breathe, if you concentrate on breathing you may not notice what the doctor is doing quite as much.

There are several different sizes that a doc can use. 99% of the time it is lubed. The most uncomfortable thing is when they takes samples for your pap. The more relaxed you are is a big factor. Just try to relax and you will be okay And the smallest that I have seen is about 3/4 of an inch

Speculums come in several different sizes. Sometimes if you are a virgin the doctor will not do a vaginal exam. If the doctor does do a vaginal exam, he/she will use a very narrow speculum.

Relax, there are various sizes of speculums.
Most important is to sit down with the doctor before being half naked in an exam room. My current gyno did this for me the first time and she really listened and took the time to answer my questions and was very understanding of my personal fears and situation.
Make sure you schedule an actual consult with the doc before the exam, not all docs do this. Also, if your doctor isn't talking to you during the exam, don't be afraid to ask what he/she is doing.
My doc talks and explains what she is going to do B4 she does it.

The biggest thing is you have to try to relax, take some slow deep breaths, let the nurse and the doctor know it's your first time, the fact that you are a virgin and are very nervous and they should as professionals be able to take from there. Good Luck!

i can't tell you that but the speculum is thing and long unlike tampons which are thick and cottony. it may be a little cold but just relax female doctos knwo what they are doing. it wont hurt if you relax and think about other things..try using a pad instead of a tampon it might suit your needs better
