I believe the v rod is water cooled, but wondering when they are going to advance this to their other bikes. Love my Harley, but could do without the extreme heat!

Within the next 5 years ALL HD's are going to be liquid-cooled and feature fuel-injection. It's the reign of the EPA. Air-cooled motors are not as effcient, because they can overheat and such, leading to worse emissions. Plus, they are noiser. And the EPA doesn't like this. That's why most transmissions are going to helica gears now over traditional gears- helica gears are worse as far as strength but are quieter, which is regulated by the EPA.
And yes, the V-Rod is liquid-cooled.

The v-rod is definitely water cooled and that engine may one day make its way into a new line of cruiser bikes but that will take awhile. As for the heat, that radiator is down low, in front of the bike and where do you think the heat goes when you are not moving fast. Right up in your face the same as the original Harley.

The only way to avoid that will be to relocate the radiator to the rear of the bike. Sorry sweety, but at stop lights you will still get the heat from the engine rising up around your hot bod!!!!!!

Hopefully never.

99% of the motorcycles out there are water pumpers. Harley Davidson's massive appeal is their commitment to tradition.

If HD changed all their air cooled tandem twins to water pumpers with radiators, they would be putting themselves into direct competition with all the other makes in the world and would lose the distinctiveness of the marque.

If you want a water pumping HD, go get the V-rod. That's why they made it.

Personally, I wish they'd bring back the Knucklehead.

Spend some cash on a decent oil cooler from a known manufacturer. A larger oil tank perhaps? That may help a little, but that's about the best you can do. Other than that, grin and bear it.

Harley will not modernize their engines unless forced to do so by the EPA.
Meanwhile, enjoy the "heritage" of HD cooking you.
