I went to the dance shop to get some tap shoes for my tap class and I had to wear a thin pantyhose sock instead of my regular sock b/c the fibers would stick to the inside of the shoe.
so when I came home, I tried on the shoe and now it's too tight b/c the sock is too thick.
should I just get a thin pair of socks with good padding or return my shoes?
It's a long way back to the shop from where I live.
thanks.

The shoes are leather but they are very tight on the sides..so much so that when I take them off,the sides of my foot hurt.
if i do save them, should I get well padded socks or dress socks?
I am guessing a thin well padded sock will do, but where would i get that?

Dance shoes are generally worn with very thin sock.

Dance shoes supposed to fit tight, but they're not supposed to hurt your feet. You might need a wider fitting. Try different brand or ask to exchange for same size but marked W.

Yes it is possible to stretch the shoes in the width. You can take them to shoe repair shop and ask them to do it for you. I'd stll recommend exchanging your shoes because you don't know if the stretching will work well or will it stretch too much.

Are the shoes leather, or synthetic? Dance shoes are generally supposed to fit snugly, but without being too tight and rubbing. If they are similar to jazz shoes, but with taps, I would stick with them. Leather stretches and you should get used to them. Also, if a thinner sock would make them fit correctly, go for that. I generally wear Peds with my dance shoes. They're slightly thicker than tights, but not as thick as a sock. And they don't stick out of the shoe, making them possible to wear even for performances.

Do you have one of those wooden sizers that you can put in to your shoes and twist every so often to stretch them out? If not then I would return them. If they don't fit correctly it might have an effect on if and when you dance. I figure that if you got a talent, use it. Good luck!

you could try stretching them out everyday, but if that doesnt work, return them because you could really damage your feet dancing in shoes that don't fit.
