I once had a car alarm which would go off at around 5 in the morning. I got so fed up with it that I turned it off. Later I was told by a neighbour that my alarm was going off when her cat was jumping off my car.

Can you desensitize your alarm so small movements don't disturb it?

Another cause maybe that some thieves keep setting car alarms off till the owner gets fed up and turns off the alarm. The car can then broken into.
