This is a term that was used back "in the day" prior to Stayfree Maxi Pads. Prior to the early 70's, women had to have a sanitary belt to hook their sanitary pad to. There was no sticky on the back of the pads. It was basically a piece of elastic that had 2 hooks, one in the front and one in the back. You wore this around your waist in the same place as the elastic band on your panties and hope and pray that it did not slide up and show! We've come a long way baby!

Before adhesives were used on menstral pads, women had to clip long gauze ends of pads to sanitary belts. The pads were also much thicker. Modern technology created thinner pads with wings and adhesives (directly to panties). We modern women are very lucky.

My mom used to use those. They are elastic belt things with clips at the front and back that hold pads...not the kind with adhesive. They used to have pads that the ends extended like long strips of gauze that attached to the clips.

Pads that don't have sticky bottoms or wings, they attach to a belt. It looks weird and I'd rather use tampons

These were devices that in the "old" days, women used to secure their menstrual pads. They were uncomfortable and very old fashioned.
