I've checked the stats with the FBI, the CDC, the Dept. of Education and the Violence Policy Center. The South is the worst for violent crime, sexual diseases, teen pregnancy, lack of high school graduates, low ACT scores, abuse of women, unwed mothers and divorce. How in the world does this region claim to be a moral epicenter?

Some of those things are not really related directly to morality. Secondly--the South is a place of extremes. Just because a certain sement of the population has certain characteristics, it does not mean it applies to the society as a whole. Most people in the South are not characterized by those traits any more than anywhere else. Besides, aren't their other vices that you could include in that list? Or do they belong to a different region? Not trying to be antagonistic here, but in logical persuasion, that would be a fallacy called "stacking the deck."

here's a little hint... that's becomes more true the more I look around..
those who preach morality... are most often the most immoral...
another example... the largest amount of hotel porn is purchased in Salt Lake City, Utah... the mormon mecca...
you see it again and again...
geez... you people don't know much about the south... do you... I know that about 50 percent of that is true, because I've seen the stats too... and I'll trust the other half because these issues often go hand in hand...
rukidding: come on... it's called the Bible Belt for Christ sakes? I know many people that feel it's the moral epicenter... I don't know if it is or not... but many feel that way...

what are you considering to be the south? it is one of the largest divisions of the us and really isn't well represented or equally distributed when it comes to funds ...well i view this more as an open ended question because thats like asking should be still have social security in this nation with the way seniors of this time are abusing it

Soooo thats all thats going on thats bad in this country? I know where I work in the south we don't have to worry about locking our doors and there is little drug abuse. Different areas struggle with different crimes.

I'm not sure I'd condemn the entire South but I DO wonder about the fundamentalist religion thing and I gotta admit they elect some astonishingly weird people to public office.

all I know is that the South is going to have a hard time competing in this global economy if they keep falling behind. I mean while the Chinese are learning Real science, in the bible belt they're too busy arguing about Adam and Eve vs. Darwin.

im from the north and lived in the south genius and found out its the criminals as a whole and delinquency and stupidity thats bringing our country down.. I will give you an example ,,,criminals are stealing copper from power lines which will cost YOU the tax payer for it......katrina..........everyone was told to GET OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and leave because it was a disaster coming ,,,,,,,,so what happens people stay so now WE the taxpayers have to pay for people who didnt hear the call. deadbeat dads that dont help their children and single mothers with no father on drugs........WE the taxpayer have to pay etc..........................................................THIS IS COSTING US BILLIONS OF DOLLARS FOR NOTHING and yes iraq is justified we are at war real simple.
