well if you have 3 yrs to prepare you could really get some things going to help u do that..Volunteer at maybe your local animal shelter.. and also your zoo if they have volunteer programs.. maybe work in some type of store aswell during this time to get the cashier experience...
also, call up petco and ask a worker over the phone for some quick advice or speak to a manager.. then you can ask anything u want because your on the phone and hey they cant see u anyways ;)
I wish you tons of luck! I know u can get there if u really want it!!!

volunteer at your local animal shelter and work part time as a cahsier in a resturant or store. This will give you the skills you need to work there and also get you used to animals unpredictable nature.

Talk to your guidance couselor at school. My suggestion would be to volunteer (are you even old enough) at your local vet or dog pounds to get experience with animals. Call some local dog groomers and ask if they need volunteers. Chances are they would love you and you could possiibly make some tip$.

Where else can you get cash experience? How about McDonalds? While working at McDonalds may not be a very glamorous job, a lot of employers hire McDonalds employees because they know the employee has had excellent training.

Volunteer at an animal shelter, pet sit from friend and family.
You should plan even further ahead and think about going to school to be a vet!
