My ex-boyfriend is complaining of really bad pain in his kidneys. He can feel it in his back (of course), and he is saying that he has to pee every 30 mins. Has anyone else ever had these symptoms, and what did the problem turn out to be??? He drinks a lot too, so I wonder if that is causing some problems...

It's likely to be either kidney stone(s) or kidney infection. Either one is very serious and he needs to see a doctor right away.

No need to head to the doctor immediately. I'm not a doc, so please don't rely on my information to substitute for a physician's on-site exam. I'm likely a thousand miles away. Kidneys are nothing to fool around with, but if you're not experiencing pain, this can wait until Monday, I'd think. I'm a nurse and some of the symptoms go with an anxiety disorder, THOUGH NOT ALL. Call your doctor on Monday morning and explain all. Don't let people say "well, it's all in your head." because you have an anxiety disorder (even though it seems like I just did!) but I didn't. I just don't think that there is cause to go to the ER, wait for 6 hours. Have you moved your bowels recently? Anxiety can also cause gas, causing bloating. Just slow down, and unless something changes over the weekend, my advice would be to stay home, cuddle up under the covers with hot tea and other liquids, calling the doc ON MONDAY! Again, I'm not a physician

It could be stones like others have said, but it could also just be a simple kidney infection. I had one many years ago, and the pain was terrible, localized over the back where the kidneys are. In either case, I would get him to a doctor ASAP, because they can relieve the pain, and if it's an infection they will give him antibiotics.

in fact alcohol does cause kidney pains cause the kidneys act as a filter to the body for water especially alcohol. he needs to cut back on that first off and the other is he may have a kidney infection... tell him to drink more water and stay hydrated with water . and if the pain persists he needs to see the doctor..

kidney stones. typically, someone with kidney stones will have lower back (flank) pain, and have to pee all the time...it is his body's way of trying to flush the stone out. eventually, as he passes the stone, he willhave some pretty bad pain as he pees (they liken it to giving birth...for men). im pretty sure this is what he is experiencing - it is pretty common, especially among men. he may want to see a doctor so he can get a for-sure diagnosis...they will probably do an ultrasound or an x-ray to see if they are stones.
