I just managed to melt my plastic tubes necessary to make my pump pull water. Will the fish be alright until tomorrow morning when I can replace the pump?

The tank is 12 gallon and not long, but tall. The pump is also the filter, so currently there is no air or water movement. There are 12 fish in it including, red tail shark, two white cat suckers on bottom, 3 neon, 3 red tails and 3 ?

A air pump is not needed. All it does is cause water disturbance, which circulates air through the water. Bubbles from air pumps go to the surface of the water and pop and release oxygen into the air and not the water. If you have a good filter it should cause more than enough water circulation to provide air for the fish. Also some fish (Betta, Most Gouramis, etc.) have a Labyrinth that allows them to get oxygen from the surface of the water.

Added - They'll be fine, when you get the money you should get a BIO-Wheel filter, it provides great circulation and helps build beneficial bacteria, which keeps the water more healthy for the fish. Visit the link below for more about their filter.

I've got 9 tanks running with no air pumps at all, including a 125-gal with over 30 fish (I got them when they were about 2", they're now 4"-6" in size, thriving and breeding all without an air pump).

If your tank has a running filter, your fish will live a day without one.

An air pump isn't really required, they're highly optional and serve more as decoration than anything else. Surface agitation created by your filter's outflow provides more gas-exchange and oxygenation than an air pump or bubble wand (which explains why my fish are alive and why your's will be too).

You can self-aireate by simply taking a cup and dipping it into the tank water. Pour it from a few inches above the top water into the tank, and do that a few times before you hit the sack tonight.

It's hard to say, but you should be fine until tomorrow morning. If you truly are uber concerned - just get up a few times during the night tonight and do the self-aireating thing.

*****EDIT*****
If you have a Biowheel on there you may want to just toss it into the tank so your bacteria colonies don't die off once it dries out from not being used.

Good luck!

Without oxygen the beneficial bacteria may start to die off, and the fish could die. I'd go to an all night department store and get another filter asap. I don't use an air pump. Filter moves the water surface where oxygen dissolves just fine.

Depending on the fish, but most likely they'll make it until tomorrow morning. Also if you have a filter running that will add some oxygen to help also.

Depends on the size and quantity of the fish and the
volume of the tank...
More fish & smaller tank = shorter life...
