Not charcoal in the barbecue sense... charcoal in the artist's pigment sense.

The most popular "natural" eyeliner is a traditional material called kohl... you know, like the Egyptians used...

Needless to say, don't use a recipe with lead or antimony. Many traditional recipes include them, sometimes without realizing it. Most imported khol is toxic and thus it's banned by the FDA.

I suggest you stick with a commercially produced eyeliner, which uses pigments that have been certified as safe by the FDA.

Eyes are just too important to risk, and if you have contact lenses, that makes it even more risky.

I wonder -- why are you wanting a "home-made natural" eyeliner, anyway? The pigments (usually mica and other natural minerals) in regular cosmetics are natural already... Is it that you have some allergy you're trying to avoid?

Hope this helps.

ground charcoal. It's been used for centuries. Just add a bit of water or oil to moisten it before applying it with a tiny brush.
