I have a problem. I was opening up a container, and I pulled a little too hard. I felt a quick pain in my middle finger tendon--one of the tendons that connect the fingers to the wrist--because I pulled too hard. It didn't hurt very much at first after that, but then I abused it and didn't rest it, and after about 3 days it became very tender and I couldn't use my hand for anything. It's been about 3 weeks now, and it feels better because I've been resting it, but has anyone experienced this before? How long will it generally take in order for my hand to be strong again? Note: I am a guitar player, and my hand is very important to me, so that is why I am concerned.

That's a torn or sore ligament. May I recommend a gentle massage going from the back of your hand to the tip of the affected finger at least twice a day (morning and before going to bed). Apply oil during the massage to make the process smooth (remember, not too much pressure!). Flex the finger after each massage to regain the tensile strength. The purpose of the massage is to ease circulation and align the surrounding muscles as the ligament heals. There might be pain at the initial stages but as you flex them, you will see that it is diminished. In the meantime, don't strain it further until it is fully functional and flexible.

You can't open a jar without hurting yourself? I suggest you hit the gym and do some finger training (yes it's possible to train your fingers). Maybe you should take care of yourself better before you lose your hand motion all together. BTW, your guitar skills won't get you far in life, I suggest you keep it a hobby.
