I know it's gross, but can you tell me about the process of preparing the body. I've heard it's stuffed with cotton to keep it's shape. I've also hear newspaper is stuffed under the body to keep it propped up during the viewing.

If someone is badly disfigured, we make every attempt to repair their wounds and make them look like themselves again. However, that is not always possible and we must still close the casket. There are many, many techniques used to repair the deceased, such as cotton, wax, glue, suturing and make-up. The degree of damage always plays a big part. As far as newspaper being stuffed under the body to prop them up, that is a fairly common practice in funeral homes.
